This painting shows a crowd of seated people facing the right, mostly seen from the waist up. The people are seated in rows of red seats, and closest to us is a row of four people. In the bottom left corner is a child with very short dark hair and a dark brown coat over a white collar. To the right is a woman with dark hair in an updo and adorned with what looks like a blue ribbon, and she wears a dark dress with a white ruffled collar and white cuffs. Next to her is a man with a mustache and balding head, dressed in a formal dark suit. To the far right is another woman with a light blue-gray dress or coat and short, light-colored hair with a bow or ribbon. More people are partially visible in the rows behind, but their features become increasingly soft and blurred towards the background. All of the people appear to have light skin, although some of the people on the left side and in the back appear to be in shadow, making it ambiguous.

Twenty men, women, and children sit, stand, or stroll along a sandy beach beneath a bright, cloud-filled sky in this horizontal landscape painting. The people are small in scale within the landscape, taking up about a quarter of the canvas's height. The scene is loosely painted so many of the facial features are indistinct, but the faces we can see appear to have pale skin. Across a narrow band of sand, the women wear dresses with long sleeves, tight bodices, and ankle-length skirts in shades of baby blue, smoke gray, teal green, crimson red, gray, or tan. Three women hold parasols in shades of charcoal gray, golden yellow, or teal green. The men wear suits with long tails and rounded hats. About half the people sit in wooden chairs, and others gather in small groups. One child plays in the sand near a pair of women to the left, and another pair play on their own to the right near an empty chair. A fourth child holds the hand of a woman, and a white dog with brown spots runs across the sand closer to us. A rowboat with five people is in the water just off the beach, and a steamboat burps gray smoke to the left on the horizon, which comes less than a quarter of the way up the composition. The artist signed the painting in the lower left corner, “E. Boudin.”

A young and older man, both with pale skin, stand next to each other in shadowy room looking at a piece of white paper held by the older man in this vertical painting. Light from the upper left falls across the men, and they take up most of the height of the composition. The paper is held by a balding, elderly man at the center of the painting. He wears a knee-length, dark brown jacket and trousers. His has a gray beard and hair, and thin black lines delineate his brows and trace the creases on his face. A younger man standing to our left has short black hair and ruddy skin. He tilts his head to gaze at the paper in the older man’s hands. The younger man wears a sage-green jacket, and his lower body is partially hidden by a wooden rack before him. The V-shaped rack supports an open, dark green portfolio folder, and the young man rests his hands on the edges of more sheets of paper there. There are two paintings hanging on the olive-green wall of the room to each side of the men, but they are loosely painted and deep in shadow, so the subjects are difficult to make out. Another aquamarine-blue folder rests against a red bed or sofa that runs along the back wall. A white, folded cloth sits on the sofa above the portfolio. The artist signed the lower left, “h. Daumier.”

A street stretches away from us between two walls to a town in this vertical, loosely painted landscape. Thick, textured brushstrokes are visible throughout. The pavement directly in front of us is camel brown with a pale blue squiggle suggesting a puddle. The wall to the right is celery green, and a bright blue sign is at the top, far corner. The wall to the left is buttressed and is painted in shades of sky and lapis blue. The road beyond the path is parchment brown, and three and four-story buildings lining the left side of the road are painted in tones of burnt orange, butter yellow, denim blue, and off white. Branches of a tree growing over the wall to the left are painted with curling strokes in olive green and royal blue, and the sky is very pale, yellow-tinted green. The artist signed and dated the painting in the lower left corner, “Maurice Utrillo.V. 1909.”

A small, long brown dog is partly hidden by a bowl of red cherries perched on the right edge of a table in this loosely painted, horizontal scene. In the light-filled interior, the table fills the lower left half of the composition. It is draped with a sand-colored cloth decorated with a diagonal band of rose-pink strokes that ends near the lower right. In the center of the table, a tall glass pitcher half filled with water rests in a shallow burgundy-red bowl. Next to the pitcher, to our right, one bowl piled with cherries sits in front of clusters of green grapes in another bowl. Beyond the table, a wooden piece of furniture with two open shelves fills the upper left of the composition. The dog stands on the right side facing our left in profile. It is chocolate brown with a short tail and stubby little legs, and its face is hidden by the cherries. The walls and floors of the room are painted in swipes of teal, peach, tan, blues, and grays. The artist has signed the upper center right in red, “Bonnard.”
