Associated Names
Mark Rothko

Painter, American, born Russia (now Latvia), 1903 - 1970

This painting is composed of horizontal bands of color in an abstract arrangement. Muted red, blue, and pink strokes create lines across the lower half, with a white and orange rectangle on the bottom. A pale green square with a faint pink center dominates the top half of the painting. The edges of the painting are surrounded by a thin band of bright orange. Some of the colors blend slightly into one another, and visible brushstrokes create slight variations in color.
