Artist, American, 1836 - 1910

This is a painting of three women standing on a rocky shore. The women have brown hair and pale skin in shades of peach and blue-gray, and they wear dark blue dresses with gray aprons, with shawls in shades of blue and gray wrapped around their heads and shoulders. Two of the women are holding wide baskets, and the third has a large net balanced on her shoulder. Their clothing and the strings of the net seem to be blown to the right by the wind. On the left, the horizon shows two sailboats on the water in the distance against a cloudy gray sky. On the right is a rocky hill in shades of brown, gray, and green, and the ground beneath the women's feet is a similar blend of colors.
